A Detroit homeowner heard a strange noise coming from the ceiling in her home and, after some investigating, was startled to discover an intruder in her attic. As she was trying to take control of the situation, the man suddenly lunged at her, at which point the 39-year-old homeowner drew her firearm on the perpetrator, shooting and wounding him. Officers believed the man, 19, was hiding in the attic to burglarize the woman’s home. At the time of this writing, the suspect remained hospitalized, but was expected to recover and be taken into police custody. (ClickOnDetroit.com, Detroit, Mich., 12/02/20)

A mother and her three children, along with her ex-convict, abusive husband, arrived at a trampoline park in Flint, Michigan. After the children went inside the park, the couple engaged in a heated argument in their parked SUV. The man began to choke the woman, and she screamed for someone to call 9-1-1. Fortunately, she was able to kick open her car door, hitting the car parked next to them. After the abuser stopped the attack on his wife, he entered the park, where he began to attack her 14-year-old son. At that point, fearing for her son’s life, the mother removed her licensed concealed carry firearm and fired at her husband, fatally wounding him. The man had a history of domestic violence, documented death threats and first-degree child abuse. The mother will not face charges in the shooting, which was captured on video surveillance cameras.
