Walther Announces First Pistol Engineered for Women’s Hands—the PDP F-Series

NRA Women editors awarded the Walther PDP Compact the 2022 Golden Bullseye for Handgun of the Year because we thought it was an incredible gun that women could and would shoot well. We were right, with corroboration provided by results of our Ladies Pistol Project 4 in October 2021. However, Walther apparently wasn’t satisfied that it was the best gun they could build specifically for women’s hands.

All the while as we extolled the virtues of the PDP Compact, Walther engineers were working furiously behind the scenes on the PDP F-Series—a women specific model announced today.

Walther says its new F-Series “elevates the next evolution in world class ingenuity for pistols to meet the demands of female shooters like never seen before.” At the core of Walther’s accomplishment is a completely reengineered grip, with ergonomics designed for the exact biomechanics of women’s hands. The reengineering also arrived at a reduced trigger reach. Additionally, a new patented operating system results in a 20 percent reduction in slide rack force, paired with all the performance duty features of the PDP such as superterrain serrations, grip texture and being red-dot ready.

“The PDP F-series is the result of a revolutionary approach to creating a pistol with female shooters in mind,” said Gabby Franco, Walther Shooting team member, Olympian and firearms instructor. “Walther Arms took the difficult task of developing a mid-sized frame handgun that offers high ammo capacity with a smaller grip, shorter trigger, and excellent ergonomics like no other. ... It makes me proud to be part of a project to bring a pistol that contributes to many women’s quests to become better shooters!”
