A man was dropping off his children at their mother’s house where she lived with her new boyfriend. After letting the children out of the car and driving away, he turned the car around and returned, then proceeded to point a pistol at the woman and yell at her from the car. The woman, having experienced a history of violence with her ex, including, "threats to kill the victim, oftentimes including gang-related content, and prior documented and undocumented domestic violence," drew her own firearm and shot at her former husband. He returned fire as the mother and boyfriend dove behind a vehicle for protection. There were five children in the home during the shooting, the youngest a 3-year-old. No one was injured, and the attacker has been charged with multiple felony charges, including attempted murder. (Deseret.com, Ogden, Utah, 06/22/20)

Early on a Sunday morning in Shreveport, La., two armed men broke into a home through the garage with intentions of robbing the homeowners. As they held the male resident at gunpoint while demanding money, the female resident, hearing the altercation, retrieved a handgun. She bravely confronted the intruders, which precipitated an exchange of gunfire. One of the attackers was hit in the chest, and the male resident took a shot to his leg. As one suspect fled in an SUV, the woman held the injured would-be-robber at gunpoint until police arrived. Both injured men were taken to the hospital. The suspect is facing attempted first-degree murder charges. (ShreveportTimes.com, Shreveport, La., 6/19/20)
