A 59-year-old Daytona Beach woman shot and killed her live-in boyfriend after he raised a tomahawk over her while she was in bed late on Christmas Eve. The woman told police that she defended herself with a gun she kept next to the bed when her 60-year-old partner was about to strike her with the tomahawk. Upon investigation, detectives found the gun, a shell casing and a tomahawk with a handle about 2 feet long. As it turns out, strife between the couple was nothing new, as the woman had an injunction against the man for five years, which expired in January 2020. In October 2020 deputies responded to an incident in the home after it was reported the man was wearing military gear and carrying a gun. At the time, the woman told authorities she did not feel threatened by her partner. (clickorlando.com, Orlando, Fla. 12/26/20)
A North Carolina woman, in defense of her husband whose life was being threatened, exchanged fire with suspects during an attempted burglary. The couple reportedly returned to their home one afternoon to find a vehicle backed up to their storage building. When the husband confronted the would-be burglars, one of them displayed a weapon. It was then that the wife exited the vehicle and exchanged gunfire with the suspects, which resulted in nobody being struck. As the suspects fled the scene in their vehicle, the homeowners called 9-1-1. After a police chase, which also involved exchange of gunfire, the suspects crashed their car and fled on foot. All three were eventually taken into custody, facing charges ranging from attempted first-degree murder of a deputy, felony fleeing to elude arrest, reckless driving to endanger and driving while license revoked.
