A young couple and their 7-year-old son were settling in to watch a basketball game on television. When a friend arrived, the residents opened their gated driveway to let him in, but a group of robbers ambushed him. They then burst into the house with guns, demanding money. The mother, who was in the bathroom at the time, heard the commotion and quickly grabbed a firearm out of her nightstand. When she opened the door, she was face to face with one of the intruders. He ordered her to put the gun down, but she bravely refused. The homeowner said, “Don’t shoot me. My son is in here.” There was an eruption of gunfire and the assailants took off, but not before stealing expensive watches and jewelry. Luckily no one in the house was harmed. The mother said, “I just knew that I had to do something, and my first instinct was to grab the gun and defend my husband and my son.” (local10.com, Miami, Fla., 10/20/20)

A woman walking into a gas station to make a purchase was subjected to catcalling by two men in the parking. After she returned to her vehicle and started to drive away, one of the men pulled open her driver’s side door and attempted to drag her out of the vehicle. He began choking her, but the woman, who was armed, was able to draw her firearm and fire at the assailant. The man stumbled backward, giving her the opportunity to drive away. It wasn’t clear if the shots struck him, but there was return gunfire at her car as she escaped. The woman drove to a neighboring county’s police station to report the incident.
