Most of us know Shoot Like a Girl (SLAG) by its impressive big rig that travels the country, making pit stops at Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s and offering women an interactive experience that gives them an opportunity to shoot pistols, rifles and bows in a fun, safe and comfortable atmosphere.

Last year SLAG broadened its reach by partnering with Beretta and launching Hunt Like a Girl, with a goal of introducing more women to world of hunting. The group even included NRA Women’s Ashley Thess last spring on its inaugural hunt for Kansas turkey.

Last fall the group once again took to the field in Kansas, this time for pheasants. If you’ve ever chased pheasants, you know the experience is incomparable to any other. Pheasant hunting is exhilarating, but definitely not for those who prefer the stillness and quiet of a treestand while trying to outsmart a whitetail buck. Oh no. There is movement. And there is noise, not only among the hunters as they walk the field, but especially from the dogs—very excited bird dogs who are at their happiest when they are doing what they were bred to do.

Can’t quite get the picture? Check out this exciting video that recaps Hunt Like a Girl’s most recent outing, which included seven women, including the Hunt Like A Girl contest winner. Incidentally, the next contest is currently underway for a spring Kansas turkey hunt, and is open to women who want to experience their first hunt in a safe and encouraging environment under guidance of an all-female staff. Be sure to share this information with any woman who is looking to get into the woods for the first time.
