Come and Take It: Guns Made for the Texan in All of Us

The NRA celebrates its 151st anniversary in 2022, and is heading to the freedom-loving state of Texas for its Annual Meetings. Firearm manufacturers as well are tipping their hats to our 28th state.

You don’t have to be from Texas to know that it is a state steeped in firearm history, one that has ardently defended its citizens’ Right to Keep and Bear Arms, and exemplified in the banner flown before the 1835 Battle of Gonzales. In fact it was the most recent state to pass Constitutional Carry for its law-abiding citizens. So it should come as no surprise that firearm manufacturers have chosen to celebrate our 28th state more than any other by adorning their barrels, grips, hammers and triggers with symbols of Texas.

As NRA looks to celebrate its 151st anniversary at the Annual Meetings & Exhibits in Houston, Texas, in May 2022, take a look at these special guns that honor a state that continues to represent firearms freedom.

Bond Arms “The Texan”
One of several guns that Bond Arms produces to honor its home state, The Texan features a custom extended hardwood grip and an elongated .45 Colt/.410 barrel with the words “Think Twice Before You Mess With Texas” engraved along the right side. bondarms.com

Kimber K6s Revolver Texas Edition
The K6s DASA Texas Edition is an excellent example of Kimber's special edition firearms. This 2” barrel stainless steel revolver features a smooth satin finish with vintage American Western scroll work. Caliber is .357 Mag.; grips are ivory G10. A variety of K6s accessories are also available. Kimberamerica.com

Wilson Combat Texas BBQ Special
“Not just for Texans but for the Texan in us all,” is how Wilson Combat describes its new Texas BBQ Special pistol. The company is recognizing the great state for its fancy fighting firearms worn by members of the elite Texas Rangers. Usually 1911-style carry guns, they typically are hand-engraved and worn at special get-togethers and barbeques. True to the tradition of these guns, The Texas BBQ Special is constructed of machined stainless forged and billet parts, hand fitted for reliability and target grade accuracy. All controls have been selected for everyday carry and hard use. Three distinct coverage levels of special hand engraving from Master Engraver Wayne D’Angelo feature many of the hallmarks of a Texas BBQ gun. wilsoncombat.com

America Remembers Texas Ranger Tribute Colt .45 Pistol
No company offers more tribute to the state of Texas and heroes like Stephen Austin, Davy Crockett, Jim Bowie and Sam Houston than America Remembers. These Texans became American legend—adventurers who accepted the challenge of the wild frontier and fought for independence, freedom and the right to live life on their own terms. America Remembers has produced dozens of models in homage to the state and its heroes, from its “Proud to Be a Texan” to specific tributes to the famed Texas Rangers. Each pistol, revolver or rifle features ornate engraving that tells the story of memorable Texans, who continue today to set an example as strong supporters of individual liberties and freedoms. Ed Brown Texas Edition 1911
The Texas Edition 1911 .45 ACP pistol available exclusively from Hill Country Wholesale, features stunning engraving on each side of the slide—the outline of the Alamo with the year of its independence from Mexico on the left, and the outline of Texas on the right with the year of its union. The Gonzales flag and the Texas flag adorn each side of the magazine. A highly durable Chainlink III pattern offers a secure grip, while traditional, square cut rear cocking serrations beautifully frame the engraving on each side of the slide. The gun is offered with a custom serial number beginning with prefix "TX." edbrown.com

Henry Texas Tribute Edition
The Henry Texas Tribute Edition is a .22 S/L/LR caliber lever action rifle built on Henry’s Golden Boy platform, which features a 20” blued steel octagon barrel, a Brasslite receiver cover, a brass buttplate and barrel band, and fully adjustable sights. Most notably, the wood furniture is finished with a deep black stain to provide a stark contrast to the gold highlights throughout the gun. Both sides of the rifle are studded with inlaid metal 5-pointed stars, with 4 on the right side of the buttstock, and a lone star on the right side of the buttstock. The forestock is further embellished with the word “TEXAS” engraved in a classic Western typeface and filled by hand with gold paint. The buttstock engraving depicts the state of Texas filled with a “Lone Star Flag” motif, which is also hand-painted in gold. “Texas loves guns, and we wanted to make sure that this rifle captures that unique Texas magic with a look that no one has ever seen before on a Henry. I think we nailed it,” said Anthony Imperato, president and owner of Henry Repeating Arms. henryusa.com
