Fake news is everywhere; here’s how to get the real Second Amendment skinny.

If you care about the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, trying to keep track of what’s happening in the world of gun rights can be a real challenge. When you research mainstream media sources for the facts, what you’ll find is often filtered through layers of anti-gun sentiment—or is just plain false. Staying abreast of political developments as we get closer to the 2020 Presidential election can turn into a full-time job, and who has time for that? Well, your NRA does—and we have all the resources you need to get real gun-rights news right here.

Which Local Candidate Supports Gun Rights?
Figuring out what a politician running for office intends to do in regard to gun rights is almost akin to divination, especially when that politico is new to the scene and has little to no track record. The good news is that we have about 150 years experience in reading those tea leaves, and the combined expertise of all 150 years is located right here at the NRA Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) homepage. Enter your state, and watch as the candidates running for office as well as news items related to your state appear like magic. You can even print out your preferred voting slate so you can refer to it in the polling booth. The NRA-PVF is non-partisan in issuing its candidate grades and endorsements. Remember that our decisions are not based on a candidate's party affiliation, but rather on his or her record on Second Amendment issues—the NRA is a single-issue organization.

What’s Happening with Gun Rights Nationally?
Getting to the heart of any national news story about firearms is even tougher than it is locally. Part of the difficulty is that so much of the news about guns is written by people who know nothing about guns or how they work. Another part of the difficulty is that even if the writer knows her or his business, anti-gun editors will make sure that any pro-2A facts get buried in the ninth paragraph if they make it to the text at all.

The good news is that our friends in the NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) monitor the national news all day, every day, filtering out the signals from the noise. Not only is the site updated daily with fresh, incisive information, but it also offers you the chance to filter the news down into categories, date ranges, states and keywords. That way, you’ll never have to spend more than a few seconds to find the facts, only the facts, and nothing but the facts.

What Does All of This Mean?
Facts are of paramount importance, but context is important too. That’s why we’d like to showcase Official Journal of the NRA America’s 1st Freedom, headed up by New York Times bestselling author, Fox News personality and gun-rights expert Frank Miniter. With decades of experience in the fast-moving vagaries of politics, Miniter and a hand-picked team of the world’s top freedom-loving voices, America’s 1st Freedom provides the background and analysis that’s missing from the mainstream media. You can receive the print edition of America’s 1st Freedom as part of your NRA Membership, add it to your existing Membership or just sign up for their free weekly newsletter.

Staying informed is the keystone to staying active … and that’s the keystone to staying free.
