A legally armed North Carolina woman who witnessed a man being shot in the face during an attack came to his defense, according to reports. Details we have are as follows:

Police said at about 6 p.m. on a Monday in November 2023, a 33-year-old man engaged in a verbal altercation with another man while out on a street. The two men ultimately went their separate ways but about 30 minutes later, the man reportedly tracked down the other man and confronted him with a gun—then allegedly shot him in the face. The unnamed bystander then stepped in to defend the injured man, shooting him five times, police said. The aggressor was in critical but stable condition following the shooting. He was deemed by police to be the aggressor and faced charges of felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury, firearm by a felon and assault by pointing a gun. The other man sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to local reports. The police captain said he did not expect any charges on the person that returned fire.
